We are thrilled to share casting information for our upcoming staging of Sweeney Todd.

Character Synopsis:

Sweeney Todd – Male, Age 40+ - An ordinary man whose initial motive is one of revenge for the wrongs committed against him and his family. Succumbs to the fascination of holding power of life and death in his hands.

Anthony Hope – Male, Age can be flexible. Portrayed as a kind character, he has sailed the world, but London is home. Falls in love with Johanna and rescues her from the asylum where the judge has had her locked away.

​

Mrs Lovett – Female, Age 40+ Infatuated with Sweeney Todd to the point where she not only condones his murders but it's her idea to make the victims the contents of her pies.

​

Judge Turpin, Male, Age 40-60+ Corrupt judge, we see him the reason for Sweeney Todd being shipped away and then so determined to have Johanna as his wife that he would rather see her locked up in an asylum than be with anyone else.

​

A Beadle, Male, Age flexible Another corrupt character there to do the judge’s bidding.

​

Beggar Woman, Female, Age 40+ The Beggar Woman who observes everything, tries to warn Tobias to stay away from the pie shop. Turns out to be Sweeney's wife.

​

Johanna, Female, Age 20s Sweeney's daughter who has been made a ward of the Judge who then keeps her locked away, falls in love with Anthony Hope.

​

Alfredo Pirelli, Male, Age flexible General barber, as per the era it was common for the barbers to sell elixirs and extract teeth. Is the first victim to be murdered by Sweeney.

​

Balding Man, Male, Age flexible Goes to Sweeney Todd for help and becomes the second victim. Could double up as part of the crowd/extras.

​

Jonas Fogg, Male, Age flexible This is a small part, the character appears only in one scene and oversees the patients in the lunatic asylum, could be any age and double up as crowd/extras.

​

Mrs Todd, Female 40+ Only seen briefly, could be played by the beggar woman depending on interest.
